El Paso Rock Wall Construction, Repair and Builders
Frequently Asked Questions
Cost
How much will building or repairing my rock wall cost?
It all really depends on a few factors including cost of supplies and labor, size of the project, preparation work, including demolition, and the terrain in the area. Pricing can range anywhere between $7 a square foot to $35 a square foot. The best way to figure out pricing would be to call us and get a free estimate.
Labor
How much work goes into building a new rock wall fence?
This depends on whether you want a mortared wall or a dry stack wall. If you prefer a mortared wall (which is what we’re used to seeing in El Paso) some digging may be required as it requires several inches underground in order to create stability. Dry stack walls are stones that are stacked on top of one another strategically to create a wall and may take less time as there is no mortar involved. Another thing to consider would be drainage. Mortared walls need to include draining as water cannot drain through the material. Drainage in a dry stack wall is simpler as the space between the rock creates natural drainage.
Another factor to consider would be the length and height of your wall. The taller or more square feet you want your wall, the labor intensive the work will be.
Rock Wall Type
What kind of wall should I choose?
When considering whether you want a dry stack wall or a mortared rock wall, you need to think about its location and its purpose. Mortared walls are sturdier and can be built taller since the mortar holds the stones together as they are being placed. You may want to choose this option if you want to create more privacy around your property. Something to consider, though, would be that maintenance is more difficult and costly on mortared walls.
Dry stack walls are a bit easier to maintain since the same stones can be used and restacked should the stones move over time. Dry stack walls are usually shorter in height, so this may be something you need to think about if you want more height for privacy.
